Ready to join DMK but Stalin is not ready to accept us: MK Alagiri

Chennai | M. Karunanidhi’s son and expelled DMK leader MK Alagiri on Thursday taking a complete U-turn from his last statement said he is ready to join the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) under MK Stalin’s leadership.

Speaking to reporters Alagiri said, “We are ready to join the DMK… It is obvious that I accept him (Stalin) as my leader.” The statement from Alagiri has come just 2 days after the appointment of Karunanidhi’s younger son MK Stalin as the DMK President.

Earlier criticising the leadership of Stalin last week Alagiri said that he wants to join the party because he wants to save it. He further threatened Stalin of consequences if he is not included in the party. “Earlier Kalaignar was there. Now we have to save the party and we want to join it. If they don’t include us in the party, they will have to face the consequences,” said MK Alagiri.

Former Union Minister MK Alagiri was expelled in 2014 from DMK by then party president Karunanidhi for indulging in anti-party activities and making derogatory remarks. Whereas MK Stalin was announced as Karunanidhi’s successor and was appointed the working president in 2017 when the health condition of Karunanidhi’s deteriorated.
