Reliance Group slaps ₹1000 crores defamation notice against Sanjay Nirupam

Sanjay Nirupam had alleged that the deal Adani-Ambani deal will increase the power tariffs paid by Mumbaikars.

In a mounting trouble for Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam, the Reliance Group has served a defamation notice of ₹1000 crores against him. Nirupam has earlier alleged that the deal between Reliance Infra and Adani Transmission Limited points towards many financial irregularities.

Sanjay Nirupam had also demanded a probe by the Maharashtra State Regulatory Commission (MERC) into the allegedly murky deal. The Reliance Infra has made a deal to hand over its power operations in the Mumbai region to Adani Transmission Limited for ₹18,800 crores. He had alleged that this will increase the power tariffs paid by Mumbaikars. He said the Adani group is already in debt and suspected that the transmission may result in increased tariffs.

Responding to the allegations made by Sanjay Nirupam, Reliance group said that apart from serving a ₹1000 crores defamation notice, the group will also be filing a contempt petition in Bombay High court.
