RS Prasad takes U-turn on his comment equating film business with no economic slowdown

On Sunday, Mr. Prasad claimed that one part of his statement had been “completely twisted”, and said, “I am a sensitive person, I withdraw this comment”

New Delhi: After facing backlash, Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad withdrew his comments on economic slowdown. He had said that there is no economic slowdown in the country as three films released on October 2 did a business worth ₹120 crore on box office. “Unless the economy is sound in the country how can three movies alone collect so much business in a single day?” Prasad had asked.

Not only that, on Saturday Prasad also dissmissed NSSO report on the high unemployment rate and IMF’s report of a slowdown in India. The senior BJP leader was also trolled online by people.

Yesterday Mr. Prasad claimed that one part of his statement had been “completely twisted”, and said, “I am a sensitive person, I withdraw this comment“.

Prasad said “My comments made in Mumbai about three films making ₹120 crores in a single day the highest ever was a factually correct statement. I had started this as I was in Mumbai the film capital of India. The government is very proud of our film industry which provided employment to lakhs of people and contributes significantly by paying taxes,”.

“Earlier I had also explained in detail about the various measures the government has taken as a pro-people move to strengthen the Indian economy. The Narendra Modi government always cares for the sensitivity of common people. The entire video of interaction is available on my social media. But still, I regret to note that one part of my statement has been completely twisted out of context. Being a sensitive person, I withdraw my comment,” said Minister.
