Sabarimala Row: Protesters wave Black flags at Kerala Devaswom Minister

Kerala Devaswom Minister K Surendran was shown black flags by the protestors who condemned the entry of two women in Sabarimala earlier today.

Kochi| The protests erupted in several parts of Kerala on Tuesday after two women entered the Sabarimala Temple early in the morning. The protesters who turned out in large numbers blocked the National highway was near Trivandrum.

Kerala’s Devaswom Minister K Surendran too had to face the brunt of the protesters. The Minister was shown black flags by the Ayyappa devotees. Kerala Health Minister K K Shylaja who led the “Women’s Wall” at Kasargod was also shown black flags by the protesters.

Earlier today, in a first-ever incident since the Supreme Court order, two women devotees entered Sabarimala shrine. The two women Bindu and Kanakdurga-in their 40s-offered their prayers at Sabarimala temple at around 3.45 am in the morning. They were accompanied by police personnel.

This is for the first time since the Supreme Court bench in its 4:1 verdict removed the ban on entry of women devotees between the age of 10 to 50 in Sabarimala temple.

The politics have also heated up in the state as Congress-led UDF and BJP have called for these protest.
