Samjhauta, Thar, now Dosti: Pakistan suspends bus service between Delhi-Lahore

Dosti bus service was first started in February 1999. However, after the Parliament attacks in 2001, it was briefly suspended. The services resumed in 2003.

 

New Delhi| The abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir by the Indian govt, has put Pakistan in a tight spot. Even after Indian govt clarifying that it is an internal matter, Pakistan is creating a furore. On Friday it announced to suspend the ‘Dosti’ bus service between Delhi and Lahore.

Dosti bus service was first started in February 1999. However, after the Parliament attacks in 2001, it was briefly suspended. The Dosti bus services resumed on July 2003.

The announcement comes a day after Pakistan suspended two of its cross-border trains including Samjhauta Express- which was started after Shimla Agreement and Thar Express. Pakistan’s Railway minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed announced that the govt has decided to suspend the services of Thar Express and the last train would leave for India late Friday night.

On Wednesday, Imran Khan held a meeting of the National Security Committee in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Hayat, Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa, Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mehmood Abbasi, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, ISI Director-General Lt Gen Faiz Hameed and other officials.

It was decided in the meeting to downgrade bilateral ties with India. Pakistan also decided to review the bilateral arrangement and suspend bilateral trade. It has fired Indian envoy. Here are the seven steps Islamabad has decided to take against India:

1. Pakistan has downgraded the status of diplomatic relations with India.
2. It has been decided to review the bilateral agreement with India.
3. It will raise the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in the United Nations and its Security Council.
4. It has dedicated 14 August (Its Independence Day) to the people of Jammu and Kashmir
5. It will celebrate India’s Independence Day (15 August) as Black Day.
6. It has instructed all its diplomatic channels to raise the issue of India’s cruel and human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir worldwide.
7. Prime Minister Imran Khan has instructed his army to continue vigilance.
