Sanjay Nirupam warns Congress against alliance with ShivSena, reminds BSP episode

Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said, “Years ago Congress committed the same mistake by coming in alliance with BSP in Uttar Pradesh

Mumbai: On Thursday senior Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam expressed warned the Congress leadership from making a ‘mistake in Maharashtra’ by supporting ShivSena. Taking to Twitter, Nirupam said that being the third party in the Shiv Sena government is like ‘burying the Congress’ in Maharashtra. Nirupam’s comment comes hours after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) accorded a go-ahead for government formation in Maharashtra with Shiv Sena.

Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said, “Years ago Congress committed the same mistake by coming in alliance with BSP in Uttar Pradesh. Since then the party has suffered a setback. Now Congress is repeating the mistake in Maharashtra. Joining the ShivSena government at number three is a huge blunder. It would be better if the Congress chief doesn’t come under any pressure.”

Maharashtra Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said, “A government formed with a ShivSena alliance will always remain paralyzed…Congress should opt-out it as this sort of alliance will hurt the party in the long run and benefit only one other party.

Earlier in the Congress Working Committee has supported ShivSena in the Maharashtra government. On Friday a final decision is expected to be taken by the parties. Briefing media on the political developments in the Maharashtra, ShivSena MP Sanjay Raut said that the process to form a government in the state has started and that a stable government will be formed in Maharashtra before December 1. “We have informed the CWC about our parleys with NCP,” Congress’ state in-charge Mallikarjun Kharge said after the meeting.

“We have apprised the CWC members of the latest political situation in Maharashtra. Today, Congress-NCP discussion will continue on the matter. I think, tomorrow, we will probably have a decision in Mumbai,” said Congress leader KC Venugopal.

“The process to form the government has started. It will be completed before December 1. All three parties will hold a meeting in Mumbai,” Sanjay Raut told reporters on Thursday. According to sources, ShivSena and NCP are likely to get the chief minister’s post for 2.5 years each and the Congress party will be given the deputy Chief Minister post.
