NCP (SP) patriarch Sharad Pawar on Tuesday hinted that the party was likely to contest the BMC polls alone. During a media interaction in Mumbai, Mr Pawar said the INDIA alliance was formed only for national-level elections, and nothing was discussed about contesting municipal or assembly elections together.
Pawar said: “When the INDIA front was formed, the discussion was only about national issues and elections. There was no discussion about local body polls or state polls.”
However, the former union minister said a meeting would be held among the MVA constituents to decide if the parties would contest the civic polls in alliance or alone.

Pawar said: “In the upcoming municipal elections in Maharashtra, everyone will decide by holding a meeting in 8–10 days whether we will fight together or alone. We have communication within the alliance.”
Following the footsteps of TMC and Samajwadi Party, Pawar extended support to the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in the Delhi polls.
“In Delhi Assembly elections, my feeling is that we should help Arvind Kejriwal,” Pawar said.
Pawar’s remark comes days after the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) announced that it would contest the elections to the local bodies. The (undivided) Shiv Sena has been at the helm of the BMC since the 1970s. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is India’s richest civic body.
