“Shivsena should accept Deputy CM post for Aaditya Thackeray”: Ramdas Athawale

Ramdas Athawale said, ” said, “I will talk to both sides and ask them to resolve the issue through dialogue. I hope that the decision will be taken in the next four-five days.”

Mumbai| Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Sunday said that the Shivsena should accept the post of Deputy Chief Minister for Aditya Thackeray for five years. Athawale said, “I do not think that the BJP will agree to be Chief Minister for two and a half years. Therefore, Shiv Sena should allow Devendra Fadnavis to become Chief Minister.” The Shivsena has insisted on the 50:50 formula for the post of Cm. It has demanded that it should be given the post of Chief Minister for the first two and a half year. BJP can take the rest two and a half years term for CM post.

Athawale said, “My formula is that BJP and Shivsena should come together because the people’s mandate is with them. Certainly, the NDA did not get as many seats as was expected, but they have the majority. The claim of the Chief Minister’s post is definitely that of the BJP. The Shivsena says it was given only 124 seats. It could also be given the post of minister in the centre.”

The Union Minister said, “I will talk to both sides and ask them to resolve the issue through dialogue. I hope that the decision will be taken in the next four-five days.”

The results of Maharashtra Assembly Elections spelt a fractured mandate with no party getting the absolute majority. While BJP won 105 seats down from 122 in 2014, Shivsena won 56 seats. Together they have 161 seats which are more than the required numbers to form a government. However, Shivsena is now adamant on its demand for implementing 50:50 formula.

Fadnavis said: BJP-led government will run for the next 5 years

On October 26, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made it clear that the BJP-led government would run in the state for the next five years. “We have emerged as the largest coalition party in the elections. We will give the state a stable coalition government under the leadership of BJP, ” he said. Fadnavis’s statement came at a time when some Shiv Sena leaders have demanded that Shiv Sena and BJP for two and a half years become the Chief Minister of the state.
