ShivSena to move to Supreme Court against Governor if President’s Rule imposed

ShivSena leaders, on the other hand, are upset with the governor. They say that the governor gave the BJP three days after inviting them to stake a claim.

Mumbai| As the political parties in Maharashtra race against time to avoid the Presidential rule in Maharashtra, the ShivSena is preparing to move the Supreme Court against Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Reportedly, the party has contacted senior Congress leader and advocate Kapil Sibal.

After the BJP refused to form the government in Maharashtra on Sunday, the governor invited ShivSena to stake claim to form the government. It was given time till Sunday at 7.30 PM. Before the deadline, political activities speeded up in Maharashtra. ShivSena chief Uddhav Thackeray reached out to NCP. He met NCP chief Sharad Pawar at his Silver Oak residence and also dialled up Congress President Sonia Gandhi twice.

Meanwhile, Aaditya Thackeray along with other senior ShivSena leaders met the governor and sought more time from him. However, the governor denied. Clarifying his position, he said in a tweet, “Eknath Shinde was called upon to express his willingness and ability to form GOVT. Shiv Sena leaders met and submitted a letter expressing their willingness to form the Govt; however, they couldn’t submit the requisite letter of support from the alliance partners.”

The governor later invited the third-largest party NCP to stake claim to form the government. They have also been given 24 hours deadline. If they fail to do so, the governor is considering to impose presidential rule in the state.
