New Delhi | The Supreme Court has agreed to allow the Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury to travel to Kashmir, to meet party colleague.
CJI Gogoi said that citizens must be allowed to have access to Jammu and Kashmir.

Yechury had filed a petition challenging the detention of Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, who was detained on August 5 along with other political leaders, as a part of a move by the Centre to prevent any unrest and violence.
A senior advocate appearing for Yechury told the court that Tarigami, 72, is ailing.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that this would create political unrest, but the CJI insisted on not making this a political matter.
However, as a pre-condition, the court has allowed him to meet only Tarigami and not anyone else.
Yechury had travelled to Kashmir on August 9 along to meet Tarigami but was sent back by the authorities. He had requested in advance to the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to allow him to meet his party leader, but was denied on the grounds of “law and order problems”.
The plea stated the continued detention of Tarigami was a violation of the fundamental human right to life and personal liberty.
Meanwhile, the SC has also allowed a law student from Jamia Millia, whose family resides in Anantnag in Srinagar, to meet his family.
