Sonia Gandhi propose Adhir Ranjan’s name for PAC chairman

New Delhi | UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has proposed Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary’s name for the chairperson of Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Gandhi recommended Chaudhary’s name who is also the Congress Lok Sabha floor leader, during an internal discussion with the party members. However, the final announcement will be done by the speaker after consultation with the government opposition leaders.

During the previous i.e 16th Lok Sabha, the Congress Party had the chairmanship of 3 parliamentary committees (Public Accounts Committee, Standing committee of finance and external affairs) and has asked for the same in the 17th Lok Sabha. Congress has also proposed Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor’s name for chairman of the standing committee on External Affairs. Traditionally the post of PAC chairman is allocated to the opposition parties.

Atal Bihar Vajpayee, PV Narshimha Rao, Murli Manohar Joshi have earlier held the position of PAC chairperson during their Lok Sabha stint.
