Sonia Gandhi to soon announce Delhi Congress President as ahead of State Elections

After the meeting with Sonia Gandhi, Congress party sources said Delhi Congress President post will be handed over to an experienced face.

 

New Delhi: After the death of the Delhi Congress President Sheila Dikshit party is staring at the leadership hunt months ahead of assembly elections in the national capital. Dikshit who took over the command of the party months ahead of Lok Sabha elections passed away in July. At that time the position of congress national president was also vacant making it tough for the party to choose a new face to lead the Delhi unit.

On Thursday, senior Congress leader P.C Chacko quoted that four former party presidents of Delhi met Sonia Gandhi. She has said that the announcement of a new president for Delhi will happen within 2 to 3 days. People attended the meeting with Sonia Gandhi were Arvinder Singh lovely, Ajay Maken, Jayaprakash Narayan, and Subhash Chopra.

On being asked about prominent candidates who might get the charge of President of Delhi Congress, Chacko said “Everybody apprised her of the name they thought. The decision rests with Sonia Gandhi now, we will go by whatever decision is taken by her for Delhi unit.”

AICC in-charge of Delhi Congress PC Chacko had earlier stated that the next Delhi Congress President will not be an outsider. Chacko further stated that he had been instructed by Sonia Gandhi to gather the feedback of local leaders for a suitable candidate to head the party in the national capital.

Sources said Ajay Maken and Arvinder Singh lovely are Sonia Gandhi’s preferred choices whereas Delhi working President’s Devendra Yadav and Rajesh Lilothia are backed by former congress President Rahul Gandhi. Former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s son Sandeep Dikshit is also in this race.

Congress knows that it is an uphill climb for the party in Delhi and battle is going to get tougher till 2020 Elections in State.
