Supreme Court should recall its verdict on Rafale: Congress

New Delhi | The Congress party on Sunday referring to the petition filed by the Union government to make a factual correction in the Supreme court’s decision has asked the apex court to recall its decision on the Rafale deal and demanded to issue a notice of contempt of court for presenting false evidence.

Addressing a press conference Former Union Minister and Congress leader Anand Sharma said, “Government misled the Supreme Court to get a manipulated judgement and when this glaring error came to notice, they told the Supreme Court couldn’t understand the English language. Therefore we demand that the apex court to immediately recall this judgement, which is void.”

Referring the step by the government as contempt of court, Sharma said, “Neither there is a CAG report on Rafale nor it has been submitted to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). The government has misled Supreme Court. This is contempt of court.” The Congress party further alleged that the Prime minister and his cabinet is trying to avoid the investigation on this issue. Taking a dig at the government, Sharma said that the BJP can do as many press conferences as they want, but they cannot hide the truth.

“Congress party has been consistent of the view that the Supreme Court is not the right forum to probe this matter. The honorable Supreme Court itself has agreed with this,” he added. The Congress party further informed that Congress leaders had met with CAG and had requested a forensic report on the contract, which was then to be submitted to the PAC, however, no such report is submitted yet.”

Anand Sharma further alleged that instead of seeking an apology from the Supreme Court, the government has questioned the English and grammar related information of the judges. He further added that the government in order to mislead the Supreme Court has also committed a grave breach of privilege of the Parliament.
