Sushma Swaraj hits back at trolls over passport issue; Congress supports

New Delhi | External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday slammed various trolls over Twitter who were criticising her after passports were issued to an inter-faith couple from Noida.

The Union Minister retweeted some of the abusive tweets from her official account.”I was out of India from 17th to 23rd June 2018. I do not know what happened in my absence. However, I am honoured with some tweets. I am sharing them with you. So I have liked them,” Sushma Swaraj said.

Trolls called Swaraj, among other things, the possessor of an “Islamic kidney” and an “almost dead woman as she runs on only one kidney” for her immediate actions towards the complaint and transferring the officer in center of the controversy.

Earlier a couple from Noida alleged that they faced harassment at the local passport office and the woman was asked to change her name and religion. The lady said the officer “asked me to change my name, my religion… He said one of us has to change our name or religion”.

The Congress party also condemned the behaviour of the Twitter users who used foul language against Swaraj. “No matter the situation or reason, nothing calls for threats of violence, disrespect & abuse. @SushmaSwaraj ji, we applaud your decision to call out the heinous trolls of your own party,” tweeted Congress.
