Telangana: Forest officer assaulted during plantation drive by TRS MLA’s brother

Hyderabad | A woman Forest Range Officer (FRO) was attacked on Sunday by a group led by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) MLA Koneru Konappa’s brother Koneru Krishna Rao during a plantation drive in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district.

The officer C Anita was hospitalized with a hairline fracture on her right wrist after been attacked by a stick on his head several times. In videos circulated online, Anita could be seen saving herself from the group of attackers led by Rao by climbing on a tractor.

Speaking on the incident, the police said that Krishna Rao is been arrested along with Bora Posham and 14 other villagers who attacked FRO C Anita. The accused are been booked under nonbailable sections of IPC.

TRS working President KT Rama Rao condemned the attack and said that no one is above law.” I strongly condemn the atrocious behaviour of Koneru Krishna who attacked a forest officer who was doing her job. He has been arrested & a case booked already; no one is above law of the land,” Rao wrote on Twitter.

The Forest officer along with her team had gone to Sarasala village of MLA Konappa’s Sirpur constituency to plant sapling as part of ‘Haritha Haaram’ plantation drive of Telangana government. Meanwhile, an inquiry has been ordered by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest PK Jha demanding the Telangana government to provide police protection to forest officials on afforestation drives.
