Third front on the back foot? Mamata Banerjee to meet Sharad Pawar, Sonia Gandhi in Delhi

It is expected that at the dinner event of Sharad Pawar the talks of United opposition might move a step further.

Amidst the ongoing plans of a third front consisting of all the regional parties to take on the mammoth BJP, TMC Chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee will be meeting NCP chief Sharad Pawar and former Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi, today. For the meeting, she arrived in Delhi late Monday night. She is expected to attend the dinner event hosted by NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

It is the second such dinner event conducted by an opposition party leader. Earlier this month, UPA convenor Sonia Gandhi had hosted a dinner event where she had invited all the opposition leaders. As much as 19 opposition party representatives attended the event. The talks of forging a United opposition were also the part of the dinner event.

Now, it is expected that at the dinner event of Sharad Pawar the talks might move a step further. The meeting is also looked at as an ice-breaker between Congress and TMC. Besides the dinner event, Mamata Banerjee will also meet her party MPs at the parliament.

Since last few months, Mamata Banerjee is meeting several regional party leaders including Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, DMK working President M K Stalin and Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao. The talks of a federal front by uniting the regional parties excluding Congress is also on cards. However, as the Mamata Banerjee has decided to attend the dinner event by Sharad Pawar, we must wonder whether the idea of the third front has been sent on the back foot?
