Chhattisgarh Election 2018

Congress left in a tight-spot in Chattisgarh, senior leader joins BJP

With state elections just around the corner, the Congress seemed to be left in a tight spot in Chattisgarh as senior leader Ram Dayal Uike joined the BJP. He was the state president for Congress and was inducted into the Bhartiya Janata Party by the party president Amit Shah in the presence of Raman Singh, the chief minister at Bilaspur.

Chattisgarh Congress chief Bhupesh Bhaghel, marking his response on the matter stated, “We met a few days ago but Ram Dayal Uike did not say anything”. He added that politicians switching parties during the election is quite a common thing.

The decision making body for election for the Congress party which is chaired by Congress President Rahul Gandhi had finalized the candidates for the state of Chattisgarh yesterday. As per the sources from the party, the announcement for the names will be made in a couple of days. More so, the party has been unable to glue an alliance with the regional parties for the upcoming Assembly elections.

Earlier, the Congress party had already suffered a setback in the state last month, when the chief of the party was caught in a sex CD controversy and was jailed for the same. Mr Bhaghel is now out on bail.

18 out of the 90 Assembly constituencies in Chattisgarh will cast their votes on 12th November, including Bastar and Rajnandgaon districts that are Maoist-affected. The second phase of polling will happen on 20th November and the results for the elections will be declared in the entire nation on 11th December.

Uike’s this move comes after the Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief Mayawati is in the state to give the election campaign a kickstart for the first phase of polls. Leaving the Congress in a tight spot in the state, Mayawati, in the last month forged an alliance with Janata Congress Chattisgarh of Ajit Jogi for the upcoming elections.
