CPM accused the BJP and incumbent Trinamool Congress of indulging in ‘competitive communalism’ over Ram Navami armed rallies.
A day after the Mamata Banerjee led government ordered the state police to take stringent action against those who took part in armed rallies on Ram Navami, the CPM has lashed out at the state government asking why no arrests have been made yet.
The CPM state secretary Surjyakant Mishra slammed the government and opposition BJP over the Ram Navami violence saying that armed rallies were never a part of state’s culture during the celebration of any festival.
He further accused the BJP and incumbent Trinamool Congress of indulging in ‘competitive communalism’ and putting on stake the law and order of the state. In a press conference conducted in the afterwards Mishra mounted charges on the state government for failing to prevent the armed rallies during Ram Navami celebrations.
Mishra asked, “What steps did the government take against the participants in the armed Ram Navami procession? How many of them have been arrested?” Taking a jibe at the Mamata led government, Surjyakant Mishra added that the government hasn’t taken any clue from the last yar’s incidents. He further asked whether the government was aware from where the participants managed to get the arms. “The TMC, BJP and RSS are competing among themselves to communally polarise voters.” Mishra said.
Recalling the rule of the Left government, he said whenever such incidents occurred during the left rule, the state government called in the central paramilitary forces to tackle the situation. “If the state police is not able to enforce law and order then the state government should deploy paramilitary forces,” Mishra said.
