“Want freedom to meet people of J&K, not aircraft”: Rahul Gandhi responds to Satya Pal Malik

New Delhi | Congress leader Rahul Gandhi responded to Jammu and Kashmir’s governor Satya Pal Malik’s remarks and asserted that he will take up the invitation to visit Kashmir.

Taking to Twitter he wrote that he will not need an aircraft but rather would need freedom to travel and meet the local leaders.

“Dear Governor Malik, A delegation of opposition leaders & I will take you up on your gracious invitation to visit J&K and Ladakh. We won’t need an aircraft but please ensure us the freedom to travel & meet the people, mainstream leaders and our soldiers stationed over there”, he wrote.

The ‘mainstream leaders’ of Kashmir include former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir NC’s Farooq and son Omar Abdullah, and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti have been on lockdown ever since Centre revoked Article 370.

Congress leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad and CP(M) chief Sitaram Yechury were not allowed to enter Srinagar and were sent back to Kashmir.

Earlier today, “I have invited Rahul Gandhi to come here. I will send you a plane, to observe (the situation) and then speak up,” Malik had announced.

On Sunday, Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi had shared his concerns on Twitter, and said that various reports have come in about pertaining unrest in the newly formed Union Territory. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give a transparent answer.
