A Week After Delhi Riots, CM Arvind Kejriwal To Meet PM Modi Today

Since taking charge for the new term, CM Arvind Kejriwal meets PM Modi first time today. Last week, CM had met Union Home Minister over the clashes.

New Delhi| Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. The meeting is expected to take place at 11 am in Parliament. This is their first meeting after the Aam Aadmi Party convener was sworn-in as the CM for a third term after a landslide election win last month.

The meeting comes nearly a week after the intense riots spread across at least 10 districts of the northeastern part of the capital city which has left at least 46 people dead and over 200 injured.

Last week, Arvind Kejriwal had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the violent clashes. “Amit Shah assured all help. We decided we must rise above politics,” Delhi CM had said after the meeting.

The violence happened at a time when US President Donald Trump and his family were on a two-day visit to India.

After the meeting, Kejriwal said that all parties will ensure that peace is back in the capital. Stating that nobody will “benefit from this violence,” Kejriwal said.

“The Home Minister had called a meeting today, it was a positive one. It was decided that all the political parties will ensure that peace returns to our city,” Delhi CM said.

The Delhi Police – which is under the central government – has arrested over 1,200 people over the four-day flare-up last week. A total of 369 cases have been filed, 44 of which are under the Arms Act.

CM Kejriwal had invited PM Modi for his oath ceremony last month but he could not attend. Prime Minister had congratulated the AAP chief on Twitter.
