“Weeks Are Gold Mine For Horse-Trading” : Justice DY Chandrachud On MP Political Crisis

MP Speaker sought two weeks’ time. However, Justice DY Chandrachud said that he will not allow the time period sought as it will lead to horse-trading.

New Delhi| The Supreme Court while hearing on the petition by BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chauhan observed that weeks gap can be a gold-mine for Horse Trading. Justice DY Chandrachud while hearing the case asked the speaker NP Prajapati if he could talk to the missing MLAs through video conferencing.

The speaker had asked the MLAs who had resigned to come in person and submit their resignation. However, the MLAs said that they fear for their life and also mentioned that the Congress leaders in the state could pressurize them into withdrawing the resignations.

“We can appoint an observer to Bengaluru or some other place. They can connect with you on the video conferencing and you can then decide,” said Justice DY Chandrachud. Responding to it, Speaker said that he needs two weeks’ time to decide on the matter.

However, Justice DY Chandrachud said that he will not allow the time period sought as it will lead to horse-trading.

The 22 MLAs who resigned from MP Assembly following Jyotiraditya Scindia’s exit are holed up in Bengaluru hotel. While the MLAs say they have come there voluntarily, the Congress alleges that the BJP kidnapped their MLAs.
