Soon after the BJP organized a protest march to Nabanna, the state administrative building, Kolkata and several parts of the state witnessed a violent clash between the state police and workers of the BJP on Tuesday.
Both sides suffered injuries and eventually, the leader of the opposition and former TMC leader Suvendu Adhikari along with several other BJP leaders were detained by the police from Howrah Maidan.
The march was being conducted to oppose the alleged corruption of the ruling Trinamool Congress. The police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters, who tried to breach the barricades put up at several points across Kolkata and its adjoining areas. In Santragachhi, the protestors allegedly pelted stones at the police who were trying to disperse them.
Similar clashes were reported in neighboring Howrah, Kolkata’s Lalbazar, and MG Road areas, where violent agitators engaged in a scuffle with the police.
Incidents of arson and vandalism were also reported. A police kiosk was damaged as demonstrators were stopped from marching ahead in the city. In Lalbazar – where the Kolkata Police’s headquarters are located, a police vehicle was set on fire.

“What if Bengal used Bhogiji Ajay Bisht’s model & sent bulldozers to homes of BJP workers who destroyed public property yesterday?”, Mahua Moitra said.
Without naming the RSS, Mahua Moitra asked if the BJP will stand by its own policy or involve the RSS.
“Will BJP stand by own policy or get their chadds in a twist?,” the TMC MP said.

Yogi Model: UP CM Yogi Adityanth is known for his no-nonsense policy against those who sabotage public property during protests. The Yogi Model is simply razing down illegal construction of those involved in anti-social activities. According to a report dated 5 July 2022, illegal property worth RS 844 crore has been destroyed by the state administration. However, those who are critical of the Yogi government have slammed the practice claiming it to be a targeted attack on members of one particular community.
