Hyderabad | The Election Commision has called off the Voter list revision process in the state of Telangana triggering the possibility of year end election in the state along with Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhatisgarh.
The Election Commision on Sunday said that it would stick to the lists from January 1, 2018 and would ask the voters to flag any new names or discrepancies. The Commision will be sending a team to the State capital Hyderabad to assess the preparation and ground level situation and would later decide whether the state is ready for an early election. The Election Commision further clarified that it has required number Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails or VVPAT machine to hold elections in Telangana.
Earlier on 6 September 2018, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced the dissolution of the Telangana State Assembly for polls 8 months earlier the scheduled period. In order to avoid a clash with the Lok Sabha election, K Chandrashekar Rao after the brief discussion in the cabinet meeting announced the dissolution of the State Assembly. However, the term of the Telangana state assembly was supposed to end till June 2019.
Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) who is looking to increase its presence in the southern part of India has announced that it will contest on all the 119 seats in Telangana.
