Ramalinga Reddy brushes aside BJP’s chargesheet, says there is a slight increase in criminal cases

Ramalinga Reddy, Karnataka Home Minister brushed aside Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Law Minister’s assertions that the situation of the law and order had worsened and there was a rapid rise in the number of suicides that are being committed by the farmers there.

Prasad had stated while rolling out the BJP’s “charge sheet” in Karnataka against the Congress party yesterday that the increase in crimes in the state was three times more and there was a rise in the number of farmer suicides in the past three years.

Reddy, on the other hand, said that between the years of 2008 and 2013, when the state was ruled by the BJP government the number of criminal cases that was recorded was 1,12,213, whereas the numbers have increased to 1,13,939 between the period of May 2013 to February 2018 which shows a slight increase. He said, “There is a slight increase in crime compared to the BJP regime but it is not proportional to the increase in Bengaluru’s population by 35 lakhs. The Union law minister does not know the law… His statements are baseless”.

He further added that the Centre did not do anything so as to help the state of Karnataka when it was going through the perils of drought. He said, “We waived agriculture loans worth Rs 8,500 crore to help farmers and we did not receive a penny from the Centre to assist the farmers. The BJP leaders should know that Maharashtra, which has a BJP government, still tops in the number of farmers committing suicide”.
