In the wake of an alarming breach of Facebook data and the political controversy pot pouring in later, the Election Commission today stated, “one just can’t stop because of the breach” and it would carry on its social media policy. Notwithstanding the allegations flowing in from all sides of the inherent political divide, O P Rawat, the Chief Election Commissioner also stated that the panel has so far not got any complaints from any political party about the data being misused in the elections.
He told the reporters, “We are probing the breach and checking what all risks are there that may be involved and based on that we will call the shots next week and take measures.” However, he clarified that stopping the social media does not stand to be an alternative. He remarked, “We have to make good use of technology to the best advantage of democracy and the voters while averting the risks that technology poses as it evolves.”
