The Mumbai police on Monday initiated an inquiry after two tourist cars with the same registration number were spotted near the Taj Mahal Hotel in Colaba.
Sakir Ali, a resident of Nariman Point, was waiting with his vehicle—an Ertiga with the registration number MH01-EE-2388—opposite the Gateway of India.
At the same time, another Ertiga with the same registration number drove by. He stopped the car and informed the police.
“Two cars with the same number plate were seen in Colaba around 1 PM. One of the number plates was found to be forged. The driver of the car with the original registration lodged a complaint,” said a senior police officer.
