Ashok Gehlot, the newly-appointed AICC general secretary in-charge for training and organization said today on Saturday that he would work on fortifying the Congress before the General Elections to be held in the year 2019. Gehlot, who has been the former chief minister for Rajasthan, replaced Janardan Dwivedi the Congress veteran leader for the post.
Gehlot also added that he was especially given the fresh responsibility because he was loyal to the party and Rahul Gandhi, the Congress president reposts his trust in him.
He told the reporters, “I would do everything possible to rise to his (Gandhi) expectation”.
Gehlot arrived in Jodhpur yesterday on Friday to pay his condolences for his close friend Jawahar Surana’s death.
Surana was a senior functionary of the Congress party and passed away yesterday at a private hospital due to prolonged illness.
Calling his new role in the party to be a “huge responsibility”, Gehlot stated, “I would do my best to meet the party’s expectations. I have always treated myself as a simple worker of the party regardless of the responsibilities and have always tried to put in my best.”
He further said, “This is a huge responsibility for me and I would now work to further consolidate the position of the party keeping in view the general election next year”.
Gehlot stated, “We together would work for strengthening the party, expand its base and bring it back to the power in the Centre by infusing a new life in the Congress and its cadres across the country”.
He stated that more number of youths would be associating with the Congress party after they know the ideology of the party, the contribution and sacrifices made by the senior leaders. He said, “We need to think about the atmosphere of fear, hatred, intolerance and violence that has been prevailing in the country these days”.
He added, “the Congress would work for the restoration of affection, love and humanity across communities and bring a peaceful atmosphere in the country”.
