Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) such as Pension Funds, Gratuity Funds, Sovereign Wealth Funds, Hedge Funds, Insurance Funds etc. contribute to the stock market greatly. The recent bull run in the market can be attributed to FII activity in a big way. As a pattern, FIIs exit the market during uncertain times such as a run up to elections and return when stability returns, usually after the government is formed. However, this time around, the market has already priced in a Modi victory and seems to quite certain of it and hence FII and DII buying has led to the market picking up steam in the run up to the election.
