Around 2 weeks back, in a widely appreciated order, the Delhi High Court granted bail to three student activists – Natasha Narwal, Asif Iqbal Tanha and Devangana Kalita. They were arrested in May 2020 on grounds of conspiracy in the Delhi riots case. We spoke to Asif Iqbal Tanha, a student activist from Jamia Millia Islamia University to get a sense of where the CAA-NRC movement is today, the rise in the use of laws like UAPA and Sedition by the government and whether or not after a year of such ordeal, is his spirit deterred.
