2019 Lok Sabha elections| On the alliance front, BJP takes a lead over Congress

Even though in 2014 we saw BJP emerging as the single largest party with an absolute majority, 2019 is not going to be the same. By now, it has been very clear that BJP cannot repeat the 2014 results. On the other hand, Congress has actively been a part of the opposition fold. For both the parties, at this stage alliances are of core importance. Both the national parties know it very well that it may be impossible for them to sit in the government if they do not seek help from allies. And thus, before the model code of conduct kicks in, the parties need to find allies and seal the deal with them.
Congress and BJP both are in favour of tying up with regional parties in various states for the Lok Sabha election. but, in this regard, the BJP seems to have taken a lead over Congress pretty quickly. As of today, the party has finalised alliances in three states namely Bihar, Maharashtra and most recently in Tamil Nadu. However, Congress after all the Mahagathbandhan talks has finalised the alliance only in two states.
