Last week, on the occasion of ‘World Museums Day’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled what the Ministry of Culture called the ‘mascot’ of the International Museum Expo, currently being held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the International Museum Expo 2023 at Pragati Maidan in Delhi, PM Modi said his government has prioritised preserving the country’s heritage. He also lamented previous govts and said that enough efforts were not made in this direction post Independence. Prime Minister also unveiled the official mascot. However, the mascot sparked a debate on social media. We all remember the figurine, popularly known as Mohenjodaro Dancing girl. The figurine is currently at display in the Indus Valley Civilisation Gallery of the National Museum.
