India’s Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh has spoken about continual delays in the deliveries of important defence-related jets

India’s Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh has spoken about continual delays in the deliveries of important defence-related jets. He said these things while speaking at a CII event in New Delhi. The IAF Chief highlighted that these jets have been a challenge to deliver.

IAF Chief Cites Winston Churchill’s Famous Words

He quoted Britain’s Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who held the position at a time when world-war two was underway.

He said, “Why promise what you can’t deliver?”

Prime Minister Churchill had famously said, “To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to them and fitted to their talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds them unprepared or unqualified for that which could have been their finest hour.”

Pending Air Force Deliveries

The IAF Chief spoke about major pending deliveries. Air Marshal Singh spoke about Tejas Mk1 and said that it has not been completed after so many years. He also said that the Tejas Mk2 prototype is yet to be deployed and launched. Union Defence minister Rajnath Singh was also present at the summit and delivered the inaugural address.

The Air Chief said, “Deliveries of Tejas Mk1 are delayed. The prototype of Tejas Mk2 is yet to roll out. There is no prototype yet of the stealth AMCA fighter.”

“We cannot just talk about producing in India. We need to start designing and developing in India also, and when it comes to producing in numbers, the capacity comes in. So we need to have this trust between the forces and the industry to continue,” the IAF chief Singh said.

The IAF Chief said, “HAL is just not in mission mode. I was promised that when I come here in February, 11 Tejas Mk1As would be ready. Not a single one is ready…”

“We were better than China in technology also sometime back, but we have lagged that and we need to catch up,” he added.
