Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara visited the place where the stampede took place by the Chinnaswamy stadium, on Wednesday
A stampede caused the death of about 11 people and injured more than 60 others. This took place outside the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on 4th April, a Wednesday. The state government planned a victory parade for RCB after they won the IPL for the first time this year.
Videos and pictures from the site showed ambulances taking injured people to hospitals and cops also helped.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara visited the place where the stampede took place by the Chinnaswamy stadium. He said that there will be a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). And he said that this would help control and maneuver major events and gatherings.
Karnataka Home Minister Speaks On Incident
He said, “The CM has already announced a magisterial inquiry into the incident. I came here to see the situation at the gates where the stampede occurred.”
Parameshwara gave assurance that the Home Department will ensure implementation of the new SOP. He stated that the framework of the police department’s directives will guide future events.
“We will make a new SOP. We will give some instructions. Such incidents should never happen. Innocent deaths should not happen. It hurts to see all this. It was sad when I saw it in the morgue yesterday. People aged 20-25 years have lost their lives when they came to celebrate happily. No one could have predicted all this,” he added.
Estimated Numbers Of Bengaluru Crowd At Stadium
The Home Minister earlier said, “We estimated that 1 lakh people were outside Vidhan Soudha and 25,000 outside the stadium. We did not expect that 2.5 lakh people would come. 8.70 lakh Metro tickets were sold. Assuming most were cricket fans, 8 lakh people showed up. There has been no previous instance of so many people gathering for cricket. It would have been a record had it gone well. I’ve spoken to RCB and spoken to the KSCA – they’ve told us their opinion.”
