Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) will increase prepaid tariffs by 20-21% from December 1, following similar moves by rivals Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) last week, as the Mukesh Ambani-owned telco aims to net more revenue from each user. Effective from 26th November, Bharti Airtel announced a 20-25% hike in rates. This was followed by cash-strapped Vodafone Idea which raised tariffs by 20%, effective from 25 November. The basic plan which costs ₹79 and has a validity of 28 days, is costing ₹99 from November 25. and now, the third major player in the telecom market, Jio has also announced a hike in the plans. Jio said that the tariff hike is for the sake of sustainability. The telco claimed that its plans still provide best value in the industry and customers will remain the ultimate beneficiary.
