Rajasthan Police detained eight individuals, one of whom is the husband of a 20-year-old tribal woman, in connection with an incident where she was allegedly stripped and paraded naked in a Pratapgarh district village. After the video of the shocking incident on August 31 went viral on social media Friday night, the police have said that the victim woman was pregnant. Banswara range IG S Parimala informed The Indian Express that the primary accused, the victim’s husband, was furious because the woman, who is four to five months pregnant, had moved in with her lover two weeks earlier. The IG noted, “”She had been living with the accused, her second husband, for the past year.”” Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his commitment to taking strict action in the case, emphasizing that the accused individuals would be arrested and tried in fast-track courts. Pratapgarh SP Amit Kumar Budaniya told The Indian Express on Saturday that the woman’s husband and her in-laws were upset because she had been cohabiting with another man for a period. “”Her husband, accompanied by his associates, located her at the place where she was staying with the other man and forcibly abducted her before subjecting her to the humiliating ordeal,”” explained the officer. The SP added that both the victim and the accused individuals belong to a tribal community. Rajasthan DGP Umesh Mishra announced on Saturday that those detained included a juvenile and three eyewitnesses to the crime. SP Budaniya clarified, “”The woman was previously married to another man. Subsequently, as part of the ‘Nata Pratha’ custom, she began residing with a second man, who is the primary accused in the case. Currently, she was residing with a third man, which infuriated her second partner, leading him and his associates to commit the crime. There are approximately 12-13 accused individuals in the case, with 10 of them identified by name.”” Let me tell you what is nata pratha As per a report by tehelka, Nata Pratha is mainly practiced by the Bhil tribe, one of the largest tribes in South Asia. Traditionally, both the man and the woman who enter into a relationship are supposed to be married or have been widowed, but the custom has evolved to include single people as well. The word “Nata” means relationship. Under this system, no formal marriage ceremony is required to live together. Couple can perform all obligations of husband and wife without entering into wedlock. According to the practice, man has to pay money to live — a la modern day live-in relationship — with a woman of his choice, after the woman’s first husband walks out of the marriage and pass on his wife to other man in return for money. This money, the “bride price,” is fixed by members of the community, or middlemen, who may receive a cut for doing so. The Rajasthan police said that a case has been registered under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 294 (obscene acts and songs), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with sections of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act and 67A IT Act. Reacting to these shocking incident bjp national president jp nadda has tweeted and i am quoting, “”The video from Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, is shocking. What is worse is governance in Rajasthan is totally absent. The Chief Minister and Ministers are busy settling factional squabbles, and the remaining time is spent appeasing one dynasty in Delhi. It’s no wonder the issue of women’s safety is being completely ignored in the state. Every single day, there is an instance of harassment against women. The people of Rajasthan will teach the state government a lesson.
