Mumbai : Police on Monday added charges under SC/ST act against accused the 45-year-old accused in the Sakinaka rape and murder case. Police also confirmed that accused has accepted his crime during investigation. While speaking with the media, Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale said that charges under the SC/ST Atrocities Act have been added against the accused as the “victim was from a particular community”.
Nagrale said, “The primary cause of death is multiple injuries in genitals, abdomen and various parts of the body.” “The victim and accused knew each other and they had met 4-5 times before and the victim was asking for some pending dues, which further escalated the matter and led to the attack on the victim. It seems the accused was under influence,” said the Mumbai Police chief.
According to Police, 45-year-old accused in the Sakinaka rape and murder case in Mumbai has no past criminal record in Maharashtra and are currently tracing whether he had a criminal record in his hometown, Uttar Pradesh.
“As per Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) we’ve not found out any offence that is registered against accused so far in Maharashtra. We’re trying to find out if he has any criminal record in Uttar Pradesh,” ANI quoted Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale saying.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had termed the incident as a “blot on humanity”, and ordered that a charge sheet in the case must be filed within a month. He had also directed that measures should be taken to make the city safer for women.
Besides being raped, the victim was also assaulted with an iron rod in her private parts and lost a lot of blood. She was also stabbed with a knife. She passed away on September 11, days after the brutal assault.
