Earlier in the month India lashed out at Turkey and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for raking up the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian representative at the UN, Seema Pujana, expressed regret and advised ‘Turkey to refrain from making unsolicited comments on our internal matters.”
Earlier last month Turkey experienced an unprecedented dreadful earthquake with more than 50,000 deaths and many houses destroyed.
After the earthquake, India was among the first countries to send rescue and relief teams despite not having good relations with Turkey.
After the NDRF responding promptly on behalf of our nation, to demonstrate international solidarity, following the massive earthquake which overwhelmingly ravaged and devastated Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023, it is sad that Turkey again spoke against India regarding Kashmir at the recent OIC meeting.
What is OIC?
Established in 1969 with its headquarters in Jeddah, the OIC aims to represent the Muslim world in order to protect and safeguard the vital interests of Muslims in the spirit of promoting international peace, security, and harmony as well as inter-faith dialogue among various people of the world.
Despite India and Turkey not being compatible on many fronts in their foreign policies, India nevertheless put diplomatic differences aside and launched ‘Operation Dost’ to alleviate the crisis which befell humanity in another continent.
“It’s rather insulting and offensive that after India demonstrated compassion for suffering humanity irrespective of political differences between the two polities, the recipients of India’s humane gesture have decided to reciprocate by vilifying our nation in the UN capital of Geneva.” Said Dr. Abraham Mathai in a statement.
“The altruistic spirit displayed by NDRF has exemplified India as a nation that eschews reciprocal hostility but would rather go the extra mile to selflessly and generously help citizens of other nations during calamities even if their ideological coloration is poles apart and on the other end of the spectrum”. Harmony foundation said.
“As a nation, we have still won international respect through the exemplary work of NDRF which has provided the template which the United Nations and its various agencies can apply in alleviating humanitarian crises elsewhere when the need arises”. Dr Mahai said concluding his statement.
