73 Arrested From ‘Brothel’ Run By Meghalaya BJP Vice President In His Resort: Police

After raids on a resort owned by Bernard N Marak , children were found locked up in squalid and unsanitary rooms, the case was registered.

Mumbai: In Meghalaya, the police are searching for state BJP unit’s vice president and former militant  leader Bernard N Marak alias Rimpu for the case of “immoral trafficking” that was registered against him in Tura of West Garo Hill districts, reports said.

However, the BJP leader said he was not on the run and has always cooperated with police. He also accused Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for targeting him by “asking the police department to link yesterday’s raid to a POCSO case in February”. Mr. Sangma is losing ground politically and is trying to get him arrested on political grounds, he claimed, adding that he was not even a defendant in the old POCSO case.

After raids on a resort owned by Bernard N Marak, children were found locked up in squalid and unsanitary rooms, after which the case was registered against him. Meghalaya police said a “brothel” operated outside the resort and the BJP leader is evading arrest. So far 73 people have been arrested in the case, all brought to trial.

“All the children were in a state of shock and could not speak correctly. From the materials recovered during raid, as well as from the design of the building, it seems that the place was used by Bernard N Marak alias Rimpu and his accomplices for prostitution stated the  police.

Marak denied any wrongdoing at his resort, saying the raid was carried out without a warrant on the orders of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, “misusing the entire state apparatus by the CM”.

“None of the detainees were involved in indecent activities. The police has violated and harassed the underage students I sponsored to study, claiming they were involved in sexual activity. An adult cannot be called a party prostitute and no host family can be called a brothel. The Prime Minister has made things very personal by allowing the police to direct human trafficking / prostitution to their constituents,” said Marak.

The police informed that a missing complaint of a girl was filed by her and the girl was later traced at Tura by her relatives. As per reports , the girl in the court said that she and her friends were taken to Rimpu Bagan by the accused and kept in a room , assaulted multiple times.

“Apart from the instant case, multiple verbal complaints were being received by respectable residents of Tura town area that many immoral activities are going on at Rimpu Bagan owned by one Bernard N Marak,” a police statement said.
