“Why should I take somebody’s perspective? My chief minister gave me a job to do, and I am doing it well. I am outperforming the Union government by a lot. We are huge net contributors to the Union ex-chequer. What more do you want from us? On what basis should I change my policy for you?” Dr P Thiaga Rajan said slamming the centre.

A video of Tamil Nadu Finance Minster Dr. P Thiaga Rajan from a live television debate,  hitting out at the Central government over its stance on freebies, is making rounds on the internet.

Dr. P Thiaga Rajan questioned why the Central government should determine what other state governments can do.

Lashing out at the central goverment, Dr. P Thiaga Rajan said ” Either you must have a constitutional basis for what you are saying or you must have some expertise that tells us that you know better than us. Or you must have some performance track that shows that you have grown the economy, brought down the debt, you have created jobs, and then we listen. When neither of this is true, why should we listen to somebody’s view?

The Tamil Nadu finance minister stated that he is outperforming the Union government by a lot.

The debate over the freebie culture has taken centre stage recently. Earlier Last week, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman asked the states doling out freebies to check the fiscal strength of the state government and make budgetary provisions accordingly.

Meanwhile, several top political leaders have backed the freebies policy, claiming it is for the welfare of the people.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor  Arvind Kejriwal asserted that free education and healthcare are not freebies and said if people are given access to them, India can become the top country in the world.
