Watch: BJP MP Indu Goswami Terms Bilkis Bano Case A โ€œSmall Matterโ€

BJP MP

When the accused in the Bilkis Bano case were released from jail under Gujarat Governmentโ€™s remission policy, the move was widely criticised. The government faced questions over the decision with the the Prime Minister being taunted for allowing this to happen. Demonstrations also took place in many places. However, now a BJP MP has created a controversy by calling the case of Bilkis Bano as a โ€œsmall matterโ€. The video of BJP MP Indu Goswami is now going viral on social media and people are criticising the comments made by the Upper House member.

In a video, Indu Goswami is seen saying that it is very unfortunate if the empowerment campaign of women by the central government and state governments is suppressed over the incident of a small Bilkis Bano incident. โ€œI am not a legal expert but I believe that if you question the plan of action by doing a small thing then it is not right,โ€ the saffron party leader said.

Social worker Yogita Bhayana, reacting strongly to this statement, wrote: โ€œBilkis Bano is a small caseโ€ is a small matter: MP Indu Goswami! I am ashamed that we elected such a woman and made her an MP who says #BilkisBano is a small case, being a woman such a bad mentality for a woman !!

Journalist Pragya Mishra, slamming the MP for her statement, said: โ€œShe is a woman.. She is also a BJP MP.. She is telling the gang-rape of pregnant Bilkis Bano..then the murder of 7 people from her family is a small case. If a 2 Rupee troll had something like this, then there could have been questions over his upbringing. It is unfortunate that this madam is the honorable member of the Beti Bachao Party.โ€

CM Bhagwant Mann Directs Officials To Support Army In Recruiting Agniveers In Punjab

ANI

โ€œAny laxity shall be viewed seriously,โ€ says Bhagwant Mann while directing officials to recruit Agniveers in the forces

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday directed officials to ensure complete support to Indian Army for the recruitment of Agniveers in the state.

โ€œAll Deputy commissioners were directed to provide complete support to Army Authorities for recruitment of Agniveers in Punjab. Any laxity shall be viewed seriously. Every effort will be made to recruit a maximum number of candidates into the army from the state,โ€ Chief Minister Mann said. Punjab CMโ€™s order comes after Armyโ€™s zonal recruitment office wrote to the Punjab government that the recruitment rallies under the Agnipath scheme may either be held in abeyance or shifted to neighbouring states due to โ€œvacillatingโ€ support from local administration.

The Union Cabinet on June 14 approved a recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the three services of the Armed Forces called Agnipath. The youth selected under this scheme will be known as โ€˜Agniveersโ€™. The Agnipath scheme allows patriotic and motivated youth to serve in the Armed Forces for a period of four years. The Agnipath scheme has been designed to enable a youthful profile of the Armed Forces.

โ€˜Agnipathโ€™ is a pan-India merit-based recruitment scheme for enrolling soldiers, airmen and sailors. The scheme provides an opportunity for youth to serve in the regular cadre of the armed forces. All those recruited under the โ€˜Agnipathโ€™ scheme will be called โ€˜Agniveersโ€™.

After four years, only 25 per cent of the Agniveers will be retained or re-enlisted in the regular cadre based on merit, willingness and medical fitness.

The Agnipath scheme has been brought to strengthen Indiaโ€™s security, the government has said. The โ€˜Agniveersโ€™ will be given a good pay package and an exit retirement package after a service of four years.

The first four years, served under a contract, are not likely to be taken into consideration for the fixation of the final pensionary benefits.

The other 75 per cent โ€˜Agniveersโ€™ will be demobilized, with an exit or โ€œSeva Nidhiโ€ package of Rs 11-12 lakh, partly funded by their monthly contributions, as well as skill certificates and bank loans for help in their second careers.
