Agartala : A mosque was vandalized at Dharmanagar during Vishwa Hindu Parishad Rally on Tuesday. Section 144 has been imposed at Tripura now on Wednesday. The VHP Rally taken out to protest against violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.
The state government has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in Dharmanagar district till further notice. According to locals, miscreants vandalised a mosque and several shops at Chamtila area in north Tripura district on Tuesday evening.
Central paramilitary forces along with state police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel have also been deployed in the area.
“The situation is in control now. Last night, we spoke to leaders of both communities and with their help we have been able to bring the situation under control,” said Bhanupada Chakraborty, district superintendent of police.
“North Tripura District Police is taking lawful action in connection with the incident that happened today. The situation is under control. Some people are spreading rumours and circulating provocative messages on social media. It is an appeal to all not to believe such messages and maintain peace,” tweeted Tripura Police.

Police also stated that lawful action will be taken against the ones spreading rumours on social media platforms, ruining the peace, police added.
Lawful action will be initiated against those who are circulating rumours on social media platforms and are trying to disturb peaceful environment, the police added.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemned the incident. A group of miscreants were active to disrupt communal harmony in the state, the Left party said and appealed to all sections of the people to maintain peace.
Following the incident at Chamtilla area in North Tripura district, prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC was promulgated in Panisagar and neighbouring Dharmanagar subdivisions as a precautionary measure.
On Tuesday evening, a mosque was vandalised and two shops were set on fire at Chamtilla during the VHP rally. According to North Tripura Superintendent of police Bhanupada Chakraborty, three houses and a few shops were also ransacked in Rowa Bazar.
“Now the situation in North Tripura district is peaceful. We have beefed up security and police protection for all mosques in the district. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC were promulgated at Panisagar and Dharmanagar subdivisions for an indefinite period,” Chakraborty told news agency PTI.
