PM Modi’s 15 Bilateral Meetings at G20

The G20 summit is hosted by India this year

Hosting international dignitaries and advocating for global reforms isn’t the sole item on PM Modi’s agenda for the G20 summit. Over the course of the main two-day event, along with an additional day for arrivals, PM Modi is scheduled to hold 15 bilateral meetings with leaders from various countries, covering a range of topics.

These bilateral meetings are planned to take place over three days: September 8th, 9th, and 10th. On September 8th, PM Modi will engage in bilateral discussions with the leaders of Mauritius, Bangladesh, and the USA.

PM Narendra Modi hosted bilateral meetings with his Bangladeshi counterpart, Sheikh Hasina, and Mauritian PM Pravind Kumar Jugnauth at his residence on Friday. Hasina and Jugnauth are in India as special invitees to participate in the G20 summit.

“After the meeting, PM Modi expressed his satisfaction with the progress in India-Bangladesh relations over the past nine years. Our discussions encompassed areas such as connectivity and commercial partnerships,” PM Modi remarked.

The PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) reported that PM Modi engaged in productive discussions with Hasina regarding diversifying India-Bangladesh bilateral cooperation. The PMO stated, “Both leaders concurred on the need to strengthen ties in various sectors, including connectivity, culture, and people-to-people relations.”

Following the meeting with Jugnauth, PM Modi shared, “PM Jugnauth and I had a very productive discussion. This year holds special significance for India-Mauritius relations, as we celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties between our nations. We explored opportunities for cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, fintech, culture, and more. I also reaffirmed India’s commitment to amplify the voice of the Global South.”

During their meeting on Friday, President Biden and PM Modi are expected to make progress on the GE jet engine deal and civil nuclear technology, as announced by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

On September 9th, in addition to the G20 meetings, PM Modi will conduct bilateral discussions with counterparts from the UK, Japan, Germany, and Italy.

On September 10th, PM Modi will hold a working lunch meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. Additionally, he will engage in discussions with Canada and hold bilateral meetings with leaders from Comoros, Turkey, UAE, South Korea, EU/EC, Brazil, and Nigeria.

Taking advantage of the opportunity and following the trend of bilateral meetings during the G20 summit, Emmanuel Macron, during his two-day visit to India, will engage in bilateral meetings with other world leaders, particularly with his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, as announced by the Embassy of France in India.
