AJL publishes National Herald and is owned by Young Indian Private Ltd. Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, leaders of the Congress party, are the predominant shareholders of Young Indian, each holding a 38% stake.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) announced on Tuesday that it has seized immovable assets and equity shares amounting to approximately Rs 752 crore in the ongoing money laundering investigation related to the Congress-affiliated National Herald newspaper and associated companies.
The Congress party criticized the ED’s actions, labelling them as “vendetta tactics” and accusing the ED of being a “coalition partner” of the BJP, which it asserted is anticipating a certain defeat in the upcoming assembly polls.

The ED had previously questioned individuals including the Gandhis, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and party leaders Pawan Bansal and D K Shivakumar, along with Karnataka deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar and his brother, MP D K Suresh, last year, recording their statements.
Sources suggest that they might be summoned again for questioning before the ED files a charge sheet in the case.
