Hamas issued a statement expressing approval for the “humanitarian truce,” indicating that as part of the arrangement, 150 Palestinians held in Israeli jails would also be released.
The Israeli government has endorsed a plan wherein a four-day halt in hostilities will be granted in exchange for the release of 50 women and children held as hostages by Palestinian Hamas militants in Gaza.
The agreement includes a provision that for every additional 10 hostages released, the pause in fighting will be extended by another day. Hamas is suspected of holding over 200 hostages, seized during an incursion into Israel on October 7, resulting in 1,200 casualties, according to Israeli reports.
