JDU doesn’t want the Rajya Sabha seat vacated by the death of Ram Vilas Paswan to be given to LJP.
Patna| As Bihar assembly elections near the infighting between the Janata Dal United (JDU) and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) is intensifying. The fighting alliance partners has also left Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) confused. JDU has now started mounting pressure on the BJP to not give LJP the Rajya Sabha seat vacated by the death of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. It is also pushing for non-inclusion of Chirag Paswan in the cabinet.
In the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, the LJP has decided to go out separate ways and contest elections alone due to dispute over the seat-sharing within the NDA. LJP leader Chirag Paswan has been persistently attacking JDU and openly opposing Nitish Kumar. In such a situation, the BJP has to take strict action against the LJP under the pressure of JDU-partner in the alliance in Bihar and centre. The BJP has termed LJP “Vote Cutter” and also warned not to use the photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
However, even after a stern warning Chirag Paswan’s attitude has not soften towards JDU. On the other hand, he has said that he will not against the BJP and even called himself Hanuman- a devout follower of PM Modi. The soured ties in the state may make things difficult for BJP in Centre. The JDU which has been battling anti-incumbency and opposition onslaught is now on backfoot due to added challenge of alliance partner gone rogue. Thus, the party is increasing pressure on BJP to break ties with LJP at the Centre.
JDU Mounts Pressure on BJP To Break Ties With Paswan
JDU doesn’t want the Rajya Sabha seat vacated by the death of Ram Vilas Paswan to be given to LJP. Not only this, JDU also doesn’t want that Chirag Paswan be given the cabinet portfolio earlier handled by his father. If BJP agrees to JDU’s demand, this may very well mark the beginning of LJP’s exit from the NDA.
BJP maintains silence
Despite the pressure from JDU, BJP has so far maintained silence. It wants to confine the entire matter to the Bihar Assembly elections and will decide its future strategy after the results. The BJP does not want to leave LJP fearing it will send a wrong message to the Dalit class across the country. Especially at a time when after the demise of Ram Vilas Paswan, the Dalit sympathies are with the LJP. The party has also not spoken anything against BJP. In such a situation, the BJP does not want to take any hasty decision at the national level regarding LJP under the pressure of JDU.
