Bangladesh Violence: ISKCON demands explanation from Twitter on deactivating two accounts

New Delhi : The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) organisation, has been protesting against attack on Hindu Temples at Bangladesh during Durga Puja. ISKCON is now questioning Twitter, as two of its accounts apparently were unavailable. Taking to the microblogging websites, ISKCON is asking Twitter to issue explanation as to why the accounts of ISKCON Bangladesh and Bangladesh Hindu Ekta Parishad are unavailable?

This demand was put-forth by the, organisation’s Communications Director, Yudhistir Govinda Das. In a tweet Das questions about the suspension, says whether the accounts were removed due to pressure from the Bangladesh government. He also alleged that Hindu voices are being stifled amid an emergency.

Speaking to Republic Media Network, ISKCON Delhi Spokesperson Vrajendra Nandan Das called out Twitter’s action and says that the truth should not be hidden. He also said that he will reach Bangladesh’s affected areas and reveal the truth.

“This should not happen and truth should not be silenced. If we are sharing information through Twitter, people should know. They shouldn’t have done this. We will reach out to our ISKCON counterparts in Bangladesh and Twitter and try finding out the truth,” he said.

Radharaman Das, Vice President & Spokesperson ISKCON, Kolkata also expressed his aggression on Twitter over the Twitter’s Action and asserted that the two accounts blocked were the accounts connecting victims to the world. ISKCON Vice President said, “Twitter suspended our Twitter handle for ISKCON Bangladesh. Several other Twitter handles that were trying to tell the world about the horrific stories of the genocide in Bangladesh have also been suspended. They have killed the people of the minority section of Bangladesh, but today Twitter has killed the voice of the people of Bangladesh.”

He also said that Bangladesh government was not silent, took action and transferred police officers. Bangladesh government also promised to pay compensation to the ones who lost houses properties and lives in the violence. In his concluding remarks, the ISKCON Vice-President also said that the US government has also issued a strong response, thereby indicating that the world now knows what is happening in Bangladesh.

Taking a jibe on Twitter, Das claimed that the website has become part of a group attacking Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. He claimed that if people around the world did not know what was happening in Bangladesh, the violence would continue.
