Kerala Moves To SC Against President Withholding To Assent Bills

Zaina Afzal Kutty

The Kerala government has taken an unprecedented step by approaching the Supreme Court against President Droupadi Murmu’s refusal to approve four bills passed by the state assembly. According to the petition filed by advocate CK Sasi, the issue pertains to the Kerala governor’s decision to refer seven bills within his jurisdiction to the President, despite none concerning Centre-state relations. The state government argued that these bills had been pending with the governor for nearly two years, and his actions undermined the functioning of the state legislature, rendering it ineffective.
