Congress Responds To Backlash Over Sam Pitroda’s Remarks

The Congress party clarified its stance on Sam Pitroda’s recent remarks about wealth redistribution, saying attempts to sensationalize these comments aim to divert attention from PM Modi’s “malicious” poll campaign.

Pitroda had backed the party’s wealth redistribution stance, citing the US system where the government claims a significant share of assets after a wealthy individual’s demise. However, Pitroda later clarified he only mentioned the US inheritance tax as an example during a TV discussion, and his comments weren’t linked to any party’s policy, including Congress.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh emphasized that while Pitroda can freely express personal opinions as a respected figure, his views don’t necessarily reflect the party’s official position. The party dismissed criticism over Pitroda’s remarks as an attempt to divert focus from PM Modi’s poll campaign.
