pic.twitter.com/RDV2jrQfRn

In this viral video, Hathras District Magistrate Praveen Kumar Laxar allegedly told the victim’s father that he should ‘think again’ about whether he wants to stick to the statement or change it. According to the video, the District Magistrate told the victim’s father, “Don’t destroy your credibility. Let me tell you about media people. Today half of them are gone, half will leave by tomorrow morning but we are just standing with you. Only we will be here with you. Ok? It is up to you whether you want to change your statement or not.”
Congress General Secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too tweeted the video and said that this is why the UP government is preventing anyone from going to the victim’s village.
The police and the district administration has come under fire over alleged high handedness in handling the case. The dead-of-night cremation of the victim’s body allegedly without the consent of the family has led to massive uproar.
On Thursday, another video from Hathras came to light. In this, a veiled woman, who is said to be the sister-in-law of the gangrape victim is claiming that her father-in-law is being threatened. According to Navbharat Times report, the woman alleges that DM asked her father in law whether he would have received compensation if his daughter had died of Coronavirus. In the video, the woman further claims that these people will not let us stay here, DM is putting pressure on them. However, the authenticity of the video has not yet been verified.
Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court has taken a suo motu cognizance of the matter and sent a summons to all the top officials of the state. The hearing will take place on October 12.
