J&K Assembly Polls: EC Says Polls Will Be Held โ€˜At The Earliestโ€™

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said today that assembly elections in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted โ€œat the earliestโ€. Kumar said the Election Commission will not let โ€œany internal or external forces derail the electionโ€. As per the Supreme Court, elections in the UT need to be held before September 30, 2024. The last assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir was held in 2014.

The Supreme Court today dismissed a plea seeking postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate. The apex court said it couldnโ€™t jeopardise the future of nearly 2 lakh candidates. The plea said that exam centres allotted to aspirants was far away and difficult to reach. CJI DY Chandrachud said: โ€œYour argument is postulated on ideal solutions, we are looking at a complex society.โ€
